Abstract
Mononuclear and dinuclear Ru(II) complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline containin g aryldiazopentane-2,4-diones ((LH)-H-1-(LH2)-H-3) as co-ligands were prepa red and characterised using IR, H-1 NMR, UV/Vis spectra in addition to thei r elemental analysis and FAB mass spectral data. A representative ligand (L H2)-H-2 and its complex [Ru2L2(phen)(4)](2+) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) w ere characterised also by H-1-H-1 COSY, TOCSY and H-1-C-13 HMBC spectral da ta. Electrochemical behaviour of the complexes was studied in acetonitrile solution and showed irreversible Ru-II/Ru-III redox couples. Luminescence a nd UV/Vis spectral properties of the complexes in the presence and absence of buffered solutions of calf thymus DNA were also compared. Antibacterial activity of the complexes has been evaluated against Pseudomonas aeruginosa .
