Abstract
A review of the data concerning the role of 5-hydroxytriptamine (5MT) in genetically defined defensive behavior. 5HT-ergic system of the bra in is involved in the expression of the genetic predisposition of rode nts to defensive behavior - both agression and freezing. The results s uggest that the density of 5HT1A receptors in the frontal cortex is re lated to the expression of agressive behavior of both types, while fun ctional state of the brain 5HT system is involved in mechanisms determ ining the strategy of choice of type of defensive behavior - freezing or agression.
