Abstract
A theory of the dispersion in the Moire gratings is developed and it is sho wn that the group velocity of light in them can be reduced by up to three o rders of magnitude. A conceptual similarity between Moire grating and the e lectro-magnetic-induced transparency medium is demonstrated, and it is argu ed that for some applications the Moire gratings present a simple viable al ternative to electromagnetically induced transparency.
