An overview is presented of the research and theorizing on women's health a
ccomplished over the past 25 years. This research is represented by two par
allel strands regarding women's health: the first strand concerns the femin
ist and sociological research tradition, and the other focuses on the publi
c health and epidemiological tradition. The conclusion is that Nordic resea
rch can offer new knowledge on women's health in both the quantitative and
the qualitative research traditions when researchers adopt a gender-sensiti
ve perspective.
