The aim of this study was to define the anatomic characteristics of the pri
ncipal arterial source of the atrioventricular node, known as the artery of
the atrioventricular node. Forty hearts were studied by various anatomic a
nd radiologic methods: dissection, injection-dissection, injection-corrosio
n and injection-radiography, but only 23 results were interpretable. The ri
ght coronary artery represented the commonest arterial source of the atriov
entricular node (21/23 hearts) but numerous variations in the origin and to
pography of the nodal artery were found.
