The first synthesis of (+)-tanikolide, a toxic and antifungal lactone fromthe marine cyanobactetrium Lyngbya majuscula

(+)-Tanikolide, a toxic and antifungal lactone isolated from the marine cya nobacterium Lyngbya majuscula, has been synthesized enantioselectively by e mploying a catalytic asymmetric hydrogen transfer reaction as the key step. The synthesis has confirmed the validity of the proposed structure conclud ed on the basis of spectroscopic data.
