The aim of this work is to analyse the l/f-noise effects on the performance
of the pseudo-correlation receiver. This receiver concept is the baseline
for the Low Frequency Instrument (LFI) radiometers in the Planck mission, d
ue to its suitability for the minimisation of the measurement errors associ
ated with low-frequency gain instabilities. Calculations of the effects of
different kinds of l/f noise sources on the receiver performance have been
carried-out, taking into account gain, phase and noise temperature imbalanc
es in the parallel chains of this receiver. Critical issues in the minimisa
tion of the harmful influence of the l/f noise on the Planck LFI are addres
sed.
