The so called Electrochemical Potential Spectroscopy has been used to chara
cterise several intercalation systems. The technique has shown its usefulne
ss to study the different phases that form when an intercalation reaction o
ccurs. Once the existence domains are determined, the work dedicated to the
preparation of samples, in order to perform the structural characterisatio
n, is very much shortened. We also present some cases where the above refer
red electrochemical technique does not yield good results in as much as the
existence domains are not well determined. These are the cases of reaction
s with a very slow kinetic of intercalation and those where displacement re
action occurs. Some problems with experimental set up can also prevent us o
f using this technique.
