Abstract
The alkoxy groups present ortho to carbonyl group in alkoxybenzaldehydes ar e selectively deprotected in high yields leaving other alkoxy groups unaffe cted by cerium(III) chloride-NaI in refluxing acetonitrile under neutral re action conditions.
