Abstract
Epoxides are efficiently converted into alpha-hydroxy ketones by employing ammonium molybdate-H2O2 system. The alpha-hydroxy ketones are prepared with out the formation of alpha-hydroxy aldehydes, via 1,2-diols as intermediate s. The products are formed with excellent yields under very mild conditions .
