K. Norinaga et M. Iino, On the association model for treating hydrogen bonding interaction of a solvent-swollen coal, ENERG FUEL, 14(4), 2000, pp. 762-764
The association model for the quantitative description of hydrogen bonding
interactions in a solvent-swollen coal is examined. A brown coal was swolle
n in binary solvents, including different pyridine/benzene and dimethyl sul
foxide/benzene mixtures. The amount of hydroxylic hydrogen remaining immobi
le (f(IM(OH))) was experimentally determined by using pulsed H-1 NMR techni
que as a function of the swelling ratio (Q). These observations were theore
tically assessed by using the association model. It was found that the mode
l predicts reasonably the effects of the polar solvent on the relationship
between f(IM(OH)) and 1/Q.
