IEEE 802.1Q: Virtual Bridged Local Area Networks

This issue will consider the standard for Virtual Bridged Local Area Networ ks, which was developed in the IEEE 802.1Q project, part of the IEEE 802.1 Higher Layers Working Group. This standard was completed in 1999. The Coord inating Editor for the project, Tony Jeffree, now chairs 802.1. More inform ation about Working Group 802.1. is available on the Web at:http://www.ieee 802.org/1/index.html These perspectives, which will appear in each issue of IEEE Network, are ai med to provide the reader with highlights of IEEE 802 activities to enable better dissemination of these standards into marketable products as well as seek new ideas to be brought into the IEEE 802 arena.
