Abstract
This paper describes the are voltage characteristics of high current arcs s imulating fault arcs on 500 kV class transmission lines and the simulation result of the 50 kA rms class fault arcs, A high power are test was carried out and the are voltage in a 3.4 m gap and the voltage of the are jet near the electrode were measured. The voltage gradient of the arcs and are jets and the voltage-current characteristics of arcs were investigated. The tes t results showed that the voltage gradient of the are jet was larger than t hat of the are column. The high current fault are voltages were calculated using numerical are models and the are parameters for the numerical are mod el of 50 kA rms class ultra high current arts were investigated. The calcul ated values were in good agreement with the measured data.
