Using experimental data for metals, silicon, and antimony, the preexponenti
al factor in the equation for the self-diffusion coefficient, D = D(0)exp(-
E/RT), is related to the atomic weight, atomic radius, density, fusion temp
erature, and fusion entropy of elements. The relation obtained allows D-0 t
o be evaluated to within a typical accuracy in experimental D-0 values. An
empirical equation is derived for the temperature-dependent self-diffusion
coefficient.
