Relative permittivities, epsilon, densities, rho, refractive indices, n(D),
and ultrasonic velocities, u, were measured for the binary systems of gamm
a-butyrolactone with methanol, ethanol, and 1-octanol at 298.15 K and with
1-butanol at 298.15 K and 303.15 K, over the entire composition range. From
the experimental results, the excess volume, V-E, and the deviations in re
lative permittivity, Delta epsilon, ultrasonic velocity, Delta u, isentropi
c compressibility, Delta k(s), and molar polarization, Delta P-m, were calc
ulated. The above functions show deviations from the additivity law, which
depend on the length of the carbon chain of the alcohol.
