B. Arquilla et al., Acute arterial spasm in an extremity caused by inadvertent intra-arterial injection successfully treated in the emergency department, J EMERG MED, 19(2), 2000, pp. 139-143
We present a case of limb ischemia in a young man. For acute alcohol withdr
awal, this patient was given chlordiazepoxide (Librium) through an angiocat
heter inadvertently placed into a brachial arterial line. This caused sever
e spasm of the brachial artery and its branches. These findings were confir
med by angiography. Successful treatment occurred with intra-arterial papav
erin. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Inc.
