Abstract
Eriochrome cyanine R (ECR) reacts with fluvoxamine (FXM) and fluoxetine (FX T) forming coloured ion-association compounds. The composition of the compo unds, studied by spectrophometric methods showed that the molar ratio ECR:F XM = 1:2 and ECR:FXT = 1:2. The formation and extraction conditions of the compounds were established. The compounds were characterised by UV, VIS, an d IR spectrometry. It was found that the compounds are insoluble in water b ut quantitatively extracted into buthanol. Under the optimal experimental c onditions fluvoxamine and fluoxetine were determined in the range 2-40 mu g /ml and 2-20 mu g/ml, respectively. The relative standard deviation is abou t +/-2%, (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
