Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria were determined at 101.3 kPa for the
binary mixtures methanol + 3-methyl-1-butanol and vinyl acetate + 3-me
thyl-1-butanol. The two systems exhibit positive deviations from ideal
behavior. The experimental data were correlated by the Wilson equatio
n and were found to be thermodynamically consistent. The selectivity o
f 3-methyl-1-butanol solvent was calculated for both systems. No azeot
ropes were found for the systems at 101.3 kPa. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scien
