Clinical efficacy and safety of irbesartan in patients with mild and moderate hypertension. Results of a multicenter study

Clinical efficacy and safety of irbesartan used as monotherapy (150 and 300 m/day) or in combination with hydrochlorothiazide (12,5 mg) was assessed i n an open controlled multicenter study on 140 patients with stable hyperten sion (hypertensive disease). According to results of the study irbesartan e xerted hypotensive effect in 37% (150 mg/day) and 32% (300 mg/day) of patie nts with mild and moderate hypertension. Addition of hydrochlorothiazide in creased proportion of patients responsive to the treatment with irbesartan. Irbesartan improved parameters of 24 hour blood pressure and was well tole rated.
