A 67-year-old man suffering from rheumatoid polyarthritis was hospitalized
because of Methotrexat-induced pancytopenia. He complained about intermitte
nt low-grade fever, joint pains and anemia. By endoscopic and duodenal biop
sy Whipple's disease was diagnosed. Under antibiotic treatment with Ceftria
xon the patient recovered within a few days. Antibiotic therapy was continu
ed with tetracycline. A controll-biopsy after three months showed a clear i
mprovement of the histological changes.
