Abstract
We develop hard-wired simulations of temporal sequence storage and generati on by multi-modular networks based on the frontal lobe system (cortex, basa l ganglia and thalamus). Single cell activity is shown to have been constru cted so as to mimic results measured in monkeys on a similar task, indicati ng that a suitable form of chunking had been achieved in the models. The ma thematical nature of these processes is discussed, from the viewpoint of bi furcation theory. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
