Chemical modification of a chloromethylated polysulfone was performed by us
ing siloxane-containing aliphatic carboxylic salts as modification agents a
nd phase transfer catalysis. The obtained substitution degrees ranged betwe
en around 0.1 and 0.9, as determined by H-1 NMR, IR and elemental analyses.
The introduction of siloxane-aliphatic moieties induced a decrease in the
glass transition temperature (T-g) values of the obtained products in compa
rison to the starting polysulfone. All the modified polysulfones showed pha
se separation in optical microscopy. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rig
