A. Fenner et J. Karle, Therapeutic vaccination against dermatophytosis in horses with Insol (R) Dermatophyton - results of a field-study in eleven German counties, PRAKT TIER, 81(7), 2000, pp. 574-578
The treatment of dermatophytosis by the inactivated vaccine Insol(R)Dermato
phyton was studied in eleven German counties between the end of 1997 and th
e beginning of March 1999. 2 486 suspected clinical cases of dermatophytosi
s were treated by 139 practicing veterinarians. 95 per cent of the cases sh
owed a successful treatment four weeks after the 2nd vaccination. 3.9 per c
ent of the cases demonstrated side effects which in all cases were mild and
temporary. The use of the vaccine as a treatment for dermatophytosis can b
e classified as very successful. Due to vaccination with Insol(R)Dermatophy
ton the veterinarian now has the possibility of effectively and easily trea
ting dermatophytosis.
