B. Koutek et al., GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF VAPOR-PRESSURES OF PHEROMONE-LIKE COMPOUNDS .2. ALCOHOLS, Journal of chromatography, 679(2), 1994, pp. 307-317
The vapour pressures of 98 (Z)- and (E)-monounsaturated C-10-C-18 alco
hols were determined using a method based on gas chromatographic reten
tion data. This method, by utilizing a non-polar HP-1 capillary column
, five experimental temperatures, four reference compounds (C-11, C-12
, C-14 and C-16 alkanols) whose polarities approximated that of the te
st compounds and melting point corrections for compounds that are soli
ds at ambient temperature, provided vapour pressures that agreed reaso
nably well with the available literature values. For alkenols belongin
g to structurally similar subseries, e.g., for omega-3, omega-5 and om
ega-7 unsaturated derivatives, the vapour pressures may be represented
over a range of pressure by simple equations in which the number of c
arbon atoms is a parameter.
