Abstract
Two individuals of Sorex tundrensis from two different regions in Sibe ria were karyotyped by G-banding. Diploid numbers of 36 and 33 autosom es were found. These data are compared with published information on k aryotypes from various other populations. Substantial chromosome heter ozygosity is the norm in this species. In Sorer tundrensis, there is n o apparent tendency for a decrease in diploid number through autosomal fusions as found in Sorex araneus. There is no evidence for separate races or sibling species within Sorer tundrensis.
