Starting with iron(III)chloride or iron(II)chloride iron-nitrogenclusters w
ith heterocubane-type structure are available from reactions with lithiumam
ides. The reaction of FeCl3 with Li2NPh e.g. leads to the ionic complex [Li
(THF)(4)] [Li(THF)(3)][Fe-4(mu(3)-NPh)(4)Cl-4] (1) Using (LiNHBu)-Bu-t, the
compounds [Li(DME)(3)][Fe-4(mu(3)-(NBu)-Bu-t)(4)Cl-4] (2) and [Fe-4(mu(3)-
(NBu)-Bu-t)(4)Cl-4] . (Et3PNBu)-Bu-t (3) can be crystallized. [Li(THF)(4)]
[Fe-4((NHBu)-Bu-t)(4)(mu(3)-(NBu)-Bu-t)(4)] (4) can be obtained by the reac
tion of FeCl2 with (LiNHBu)-Bu-t in presence of NaCp. Reactions of FeCl3 wi
th LiNHMes or Li2NPh together with [(NBu4)-Bu-n][PF6] lead to the complexes
(1)(infinity){[Li(THF)(2)](2)[Fe-2(mu- NMes)(2)Cl-4]} (5) and [(NBu4)-Bu-n
](2)[Fe-2(mu-NPh)(2)Cl-4] (6). The structures of 1-6 were characterized by
single crystal X-ray structure analysis.
