The Pd-Sm system was critically assessed by means of the CALPHAD technique.
The solution phases (liquid, b. c. c., f. c. c. h. c. p. and rhomb) were m
odeled with the Redlich-Kister equation. The intermetallic compounds Pd3Sm
and PdSm, which have a homogeneity range, were treated as the phases MPd3 a
nd MSm, respectively, by a two-sublattice model with Pd in MPd3 and Sm in M
Sm on one sublattice and M on the ether, where M is used as an abbreviation
for a mixture of Pd and Sm; the others as stoichiometric compounds. A set
of self-consistent thermodynamic parameters of the Pd-Sm system was obtaine
d.
