P. Ratchev et al., About the reasons of streaks appearance on the surface of etched plates ofcommercial purity AA1080 aluminium, Z METALLKUN, 91(6), 2000, pp. 510-515
Commercial purity aluminium AA1080 has a high reflectivity and it is used f
or the production of lamp shades. It requires a finish treatment to enhance
the glossy appearance. Sometimes streaks appear on the surface after this
treatment. They consist of bands, parallel to the rolling direction, which
show differences in the glossy appearance. Several microstructural paramete
rs might influence the surface appearance after etching. In the present wor
k grain size, texture and precipitate size and distribution have been studi
ed in order to find the reason for the streaks in this alloy. It has been f
ound that only the surface texture varies in the same way as the streaks. C
onsecutive bands of mainly Cube and Cu oriented grains develop on the surfa
ce of this material. The bands with a strong Cube texture show a flat etchi
ng profile, which increases their reflectivity compared to the bands with o
ther orientations, exhibiting a more rough etching.
