Abstract
The nature and significance of oral interfacial events are discussed a nd it is pointed out, for example, that the presence of thin adsorbed salivary films probably explains why it is so comparatively difficult to adhere things to healthy tooth surfaces in vivo. The nature of mode rn adhesive restorative dentistry is then presented and a model descri bed of saliva, salivary structures and salivary compositions from surf ace and colloid chemical points of view.
