This paper combines Sturm's method with the tangent analysis method to solv
e a biochemical reaction involving multiplicity. This method can easily der
ive the necessary conditions for multiplicity. In addition, we find a start
ing bifurcation point for multiplicity which cannot be obtained by the tang
ent method alone. Moreover, a start-up strategy is suggested to obtain a hi
gh conversion and unique steady state in four selected kinetic models of bi
