Determination of hydrogen sulfide and thiols in gaseous hydrocarbons

The method described in the paper solves a simple and accurate determinatio n of hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans in gaseous hydrocarbon mixtures. The m ethod is based on absorption of a sample in an antioxidant solution (alkali ne solution of ascorbic acid with an admixture of Chelaton III) and subsequ ent parallel determination of the salts formed by cathodic stripping voltam perometry. A sufficient difference in potentials of both substance types (a pprox. 200 mV) enables the determination.
