The generic diagnosis of Thaparia Ortlepp, 1933, is emended based on the st
udy and redescription of Thaparia thapari thapari (Dubinina, 1949) from the
cecum of Testudo graeca Linnaeus, 1758, collected in Settat, Morocco. In a
ddition, 2 new species, Thaparia carlosfeliui sp. n. and Thaparia bourgati
sp. n. from the cecum of Testudo hermanni Gmelin, 1789, collected in Catalo
nia, Spain, are described. Scanning electron microscopy studies revealed su
bstantial differences in the structure of the mouth and the caudal end, whi
ch enabled us to differentiate the 2 new species from the others and from e
ach other.
