Abstract
The transition between Home erectus and Home sapiens in Africa is still a m atter of debate due to the paucity of fossils and to the difficulty of esti mating their chronologic age. The discovery of a well preserved skull-cap o f archaic Home sapiens (OMD 1'98) in Namibia on the banks of the Orange Riv er enlarges the distribution of these archaic populations to southwestern A frica.
