Abstract
Postprandial blood glucose peaks are essential to consider in the high-risk situation featured by pregnancy in diabetic women, through several aspects . First, from a diagnostic point of view, post-stimulative situation offers t he optimal sensitivity and specificity for a proper gestational diabetes sc reening. Next, when considering foetomaternal complications, third term postprandial hyperglycemia is highly predictive of child birth weight. Last, regarding metabolic monitoring, taking postprandial blood glucose int o account leads to increasing insulin dosage, improving final term HbA1c an d, finally, a lower average birth weight. However, ii is mandatory for a pr oper management to avoid borderline glycemia, as blood glucose peaks are us eful for fetal growth.
