The potentials of different methods for evaluating the erosion of soils and
accumulation of sediments were compared in a detailed study of a small cat
chment. Morphological, isotopic, and sediment correlation methods were used
, as well as the calculation using the modified USLE and the SHI (State Hyd
rological Institute) procedures. It was shown that each of these techniques
can be used for evaluating the mean annual erosion rate from cultivated so
ils, but only the morphological and radioisotopic methods permit the evalua
tion of spatial distribution of the zones of erosion and deposition of sedi
ments within the catchment.
