Abstract
A macro-micro connected statistical failure evolution equation for bri ttle metals is derived. The coefficients of this equation, the microcr ack growth rate and the microcrack nucleation rate, come from a microm echanism. The macro mechanical quantities and their statistical distri bution functions can be calculated from the solution of this equation. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
