The trueness of results in selenium determination in certified, biolog
ical samples (bovine liver, marine materials) after high pressure ashi
ng and microwave digestion by use of FI-HG-AAS-technique is improved b
y optimizing Se(VI)-prereduction. Heating the sample solution to 70 de
grees C for 50 min in open-topped vessels yields selenium recoveries o
f nearly 100 % at all materials examined. Microwave digestion is as ef
fective as high pressure ashing for selenium mineralization.
