A. Permin et al., Pigs become infected after ingestion of livers and lungs from chickens infected with Ascaris of pig origin, INT J PARAS, 30(7), 2000, pp. 867-868
An experimental infection with Ascaris of pig origin showed that Ascaris su
um larvae can migrate extra-intestinally in chickens. Furthermore, after fe
eding piglets with Ascaris infected chicken liver and lungs, it was possibl
e to recover larvae from their lungs. These observations suggest that the c
hicken could serve as a paratenic host for Ascaris. There is also the possi
bility for zoonotic transmission if raw chicken livers are consumed by huma
