Computer simulation of a vircator with a magnetic mirror is carried out, th
e features of electron dynamics in it are investigated, and the generation
characteristics of this vircator are compared with those of a vircator with
out a magnetic mirror. It is found that the vircator with a magnetic mirror
allows one to obtain considerably higher levels of generation of microwave
power as compared with a conventional vircator. However, in the former typ
e of vircator, there may arise specific instabilities of counterpropagating
beams of transmitted electrons, which result in a "squeezed" state and fai
lure of oscillations.
