Td. Righiniotis et Re. Hobbs, Fracture strength of a moment resisting welded connection under combined loading - Part II - results, J CONSTR ST, 56(1), 2000, pp. 31-45
The Northridge fractured connections have been so far studied in relation t
o the weld's material properties. Upon recognition of the fact that the wel
d forms only part of the entire connection and that column material propert
ies also need to be addressed, Part I, (Righiniotis TD, Lancaster ER, Hobbs
RE. Fracture strength of a moment resisting welded connection under combin
ed lending. Part 1-Formulation. Journal of Constructional Steel Research 20
00:56(1):17-30), presented the formulation which determines the stress inte
nsity factors for a column with a cracked flange when the former is subject
ed to tension, bending, stress concentrations and welding residual stresses
. In this paper the results of this formulation are put forward and the fra
cture strength of specific Northridge connections is considered. (C) 2000 E
