Abstract
The biochemical effect of coriander seeds on lipid parameters in 1,2-dimeth yl hydrazine (DMH) induced colon cancer in rats were studied. The study sho ws that the concentrations of cholesterol and cholesterol to phospholipid r atio decreased while the level of phospholipid increased significantly in t he DMH control group compared to the spice administered group. Fecal dry we ight, fecal neutral sterols and bile acids showed a sharp increase in the c oriander-fed group compared with the DMH administered group. Thus, coriande r plays a protective role against the deleterious effects in lipid metaboli sm in experimental colon cancer. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ire land Ltd. All rights reserved.
