Abstract
A pronounced variation of the reactivity of sub-monolayers of carbon-c ontaining species deposited from synthesis gas with the nickel crystal lite size is observed. Nickel crystallites of about 4 nm display the p resence of a carbon-containing ad-layer of maximum reactivity. The rat e of methanation is discussed in terms of the reactivity of the carbon aceous fragments, and the catalyst preparation procedure.
