Abstract
Several physical properties and optical absorption and photoluminescence sp ectra of Ho3+ doped PbO-Al2O3-B2O3 glasses have been studied. From the meas ured intensities of various absorption bands of these glasses the Judd-Ofel t parameters Omega(2), Omega(4) and Omega(6) have been evaluated. The Judel -Oflet theory could successfully he applied to characterise the absorption and luminescence spectra of these glasses. From this theory various radiati ve properties like transition probability A, branching sigma(E) for various emission levels of these glasses have been ratio beta(r), the radiative li fe time tau(R), and the emission cross-section sigma(E) determined and repo rted. An attempt has also been made to throw some light on the environment of Ho3+ ions in PbO-Al2O3-B2O3 glass lattice. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevie r Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
