A new theoretical approach to x-ray diffraction tomography is proposed. Num
erical simulations and image reconstruction are presented, which utilize a
discrete implementation of the new formalism. A unique aspect of the presen
t method is the inclusion of a position-sensitive detector and an analyser
crystal to detect small-angle coherent scattering from a specimen. This arr
angement excludes background and multiple scattering, thereby allowing maps
of the differential coherent scattering cross section, and the linear atte
nuation coefficient, to be reconstructed from diffracted data only.
