Abstract
Coil coating is a continuous strip coating technology, which enjoyed rapid growth, and nowadays paints of different nature are applied on a range of m etal substrates for several markets. In this work, three different coil coa tings, namely polyurethane, poly ester and plastisol-based coatings of a bl ue colour, were studied. These coatings have been exposed in two environmen ts with high U.V. radiation (natural and artificial) and their colour chang e, gloss reduction and chalking were evaluated. Chemical changes on exposed surfaces were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). F or polyurethane and polyester coatings, good correlation was found between the results obtained for both considered environments.
