Abstract
This article reviews the development of tissue engineering during the last decade. The science began to fully develop in association with efforts to c ombine viable cells with biocompatible material. The history and scope of t his new field are presented. Basic principles of cell biology, materials, a nd technologies are discussed. Future challenges in the field are presented .
