A novel ion exchange technique is introduced in this paper. By electrolyzin
g a RbNO3 solution held in two electrolyzers separated by a KTP crystal und
er the applied electric field, a Rb1-xTiOPO4 layer formed. This was confirm
ed by electron probe microanalysis. The distribution of Rb+ in the KTP crys
tal was measured by electron probe X-ray line scanning. This technique is e
xpected to have potential applications in waveguide fabrications.
