In order to establish a corelation between thermal stability and molecular
structure, it was synthesized nerv esters of cholesterol. The change in the
rmal stability was investigated where oxygen in cholesteryl eaters of chole
sterol. The change in thermal stability was investigated where oxygen in ch
olesteryl eaters was replaced by sulphur. The new compounds were characteri
sed by IR and NMR measurements. The texture of the mesophase has been deter
mined with a polarising microscope equipped with a hot stage.
