Abstract
Mechanism of polyacrylonitrile carbonization was suggested basing on analys is of the published data and calculation of the three-dimensional heterocyc lic structure formed at thermal treatment of this polymer. The electronic s tructure of nitrogen atom playing the crucial role in both formation of pri mary rings in polyacrylonitrile and their subsequent transformation into th e carbonized product is taken into account in this mechanism.
