S. Hraska et al., Monitoring of barley reserve proteins in the localities of atomic power plants during their construction and operation, BIOLOGIA, 55(3), 2000, pp. 267-276
In the years 1996, 1997, and 1998 the fractions and subfractions of hordein
s and the ontogenetic and morphological characteristics of barley, cv. Orbi
t cultivated 500 meters from the cooling towers of atomic power plants in J
aslovske Bohunice and Mochovce were studied. In the last year of observatio
n the hordein subfraction composition, ontogenetic and morphological charac
teristics were analyzed and compared in barley which had been sown and cult
ivated one, two or three years in the same place. The soil radioactivity an
d the output of rare gases and aerosols into atmosphere exhibited similar v
alues in both localities inside and outside of the possible influence of th
e operating atomic power plant in Jarlovske Bohunice. Conclusion can be dra
wn from this that these factors could not significantly affect our experime
ntal results. Under the given conditions 6 new hordein subfractions were fo
und in the Orbit variety, which were observed in the same biological materi
al grown near Mochovce atomic power plant before its operation had started.
It is supposed that the breeding conditions have not caused the observed c
hanges. The new hordein profiles are due to heterozygotic form of the teste
d Orbit variety. The ontogenetic and morphological changes of the followed
characteristics were determined by attributes of the breeding classes.
